Biography

Jason serves the University of Georgia's Department of Animal and Dairy Science as the Beef Extension Specialist in Calhoun, GA where he supervises the Bull Evaluation and Heifer Development (HERD) programs at that location. Jason received his Bachelor and Master of Animal Science from Oklahoma State University where he was a member of the Livestock Judging Team. He is currently working toward a PhD in the Department of Animal and Dairy Science at the University of Georgia.

In this position, Jason leads or co-leads numerous beef cattle education programs including the Georgia Beef Challenge, Georgia Master Cattleman, Georgia’s Livestock Emergency Response Program, and Top Hand Stockmanship and Stewardship contest series. He also serves as one of the BQA coordinators for Georgia and as a Georgia Junior National Heifer Show superintendent. As one of the beef specialists, he serves as a resource to UGA County Extension Agents; supports the Georgia Cattlemen’s Association, its local chapters, and producers. He has served as an invited speaker at over 340 events at from national to local scope.

Jason has also served as a judge at numerous livestock shows across the country including the Fort Worth Jr. Heifer Show, North American International Livestock Expo, and as an associate for the National Jr. Angus Show. He served multiple years on the National 4-H Livestock Judging Contest Management Committee and served numerous times as an official at the National Western Collegiate Livestock Judging Contest and National Western Collegiate Carload Judging Contest.

He currently writes popular press for the Angus Journal, Angus Beef Bulletin, and Georgia Cattlemen’s Association having produced over 200 articles for national and regional beef cattle publications. Jason works in cooperation with UGA’s Northwest Georgia Research and Education Center based in Gordon and Floyd Counties where he supports applied beef cattle research
